Pavones is a real nature lover's paradise to live or vacation

The People

The native Costa Ricans are very friendly and helpful here - Pura Vida (Pure Life). Before Pavones was settled, about 40-50 years ago, the native Guyami Indians called Pavones their home. The majority of the Indians now reside in a reservation in the nearby mountains, although they are often in town in their colorful dress while shopping or selling their handmade items. The native Costa Ricans in Pavones are not city dwellers. They are hard working fishermen, farm workers, ranchers and laborers. The native Costa Ricans enjoy meeting nice, friendly people who enjoy the nature and culture of their country. Here in Pavones, you will find nice people from all over the world who have moved here from Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Australia and Central America. We hope you, too, will be able to call this lovely place your home. The Remote Beauty

The Prices

Throughout the Westernized world, land prices have seemed to escalate out of sight. Pavones has had its share of increased property values, but there are still good buys to be attained. When compared to other ocean front areas of Costa Rica, property values are still cheap. Some developers have already begun resorts here which will include a swimming pool, tennis courts and clubhouse. House lots are already there, available for purchase. Other property owners are keeping their farms intact for that special investor who wants acreage without close neighbors. And there are other home owners who have built exclusive homes in a gated community for those discriminating investors who want to be part of a small, secure community. Whether you are interested in a small lot, a large farm, a fine home or a condo, we have properties which will meet your needs and interests.

The FUN

Whatever your idea of FUN is, those who enjoy nature will find something in Pavones to enjoy. The long left-hand break is what originally brought surfers to Pavones. But others who don't surf have found Pavones full of other kinds of FUN. Whether your idea of FUN is watching the sunset with your honey, photographing the local flora and fauna, fishing, surfing, horseback riding, hiking, yoga or looking for gold or shrimp in the rivers, and swimming in the tide pools, or sitting at the many local restaurants with friends, Pavones has the FUN made for singles, couples or families. These numerous activities bring families together. Some mothers and daughters have fun looking for shells on the beach while fathers and sons enjoy catching their share of sailfish, tuna or rooster fish (or vice versa). Whatever this warm and wonderful climate can provide, your family will be sure to enjoy. Check the surf before you get here at Surfline's Surf report and Papa G's Surf Report.

The Fruit

The yards abound with fruits of all sorts which ripen at different times of the year: star fruit, papayas, mangos, bananas, plantains, guanabana, avocado, bread fruit, pineapples, mamones (a small grapelike fruit with small, soft spines), lemons, oranges, cashews, coconuts and many, many more. Every day, when the lemons are ripe, you can have fresh lemonade, or smoothies from pineapples and bananas, or popsicles made from fresh squeezed orange juice or fresh coconut milk. When you can make a healthy salad just by picking the fruit from your yard, it is fascinating. Living in a climate suitable for daily fresh fruit definitely has its advantages!

The Variety

Everyday you see some different species of wildlife. Whether you enjoy birdwatching, fishing, or hiking, the wildlife abounds. At dawn, there is a symphony created by the countless number of birds -- including the squaking, yet strikingly beautiful Scarlet Macaws. During the day and night, the sound of the pounding ocean waves will remind you that you are near the beach. At any time throughout the day and night, the howler monkeys will bellow their call to remind you that you are in the jungle. There is a species of flower here that rivals the finest perfumes. You will see animals everyday in nature which you have only seen before in zoos. They include sloths, monkeys, lemurs, tucans, iguanas, blue morph butterflies, and lapas, to name a few.

The Climate

In northern Costa Rica, you will find a hot, dry, windy environment. In Pavones, however, it is a typical rain forest - green, lush, moist and full of life. The temperature is consistent and comfortable. While the sun is warm and wonderful, the light ocean breezes maintain a constant, perfect temperature. Often, an evening rain will cool the air and the earth, and the lush trees provide cool shade all day. The air is consistently clean and fresh. The ocean is a comfortable 80 degress year round. At low tide, the large natural tide pools provide an area for swimming or enjoying the hot tub that nature created. The dry season, or summer-like weather, is from February to April. The rainy season is at its height from September to November.
